The CoreAEX Content Gap Scanner compares a Reference page with a Target page and turns the differences into findings with evidence and suggested actions. Use it to inspect what may be missing or underdeveloped, then decide which changes fit your audience, product and page goal.

Open the Scanner at gap.coreaex.com. Public comparison does not require an owner login. The interface is marked ALPHA, so review the evidence and keep a copy of useful reports. The tool does not edit or publish anything on your website.

Start With a Suitable Reference and Target

The Reference is the benchmark you want to inspect. It could be a competitor page, another useful example or content you supply. The Target is the page or draft you want to improve.

Choose pages with a reasonably similar purpose. A detailed tutorial is rarely a fair completeness benchmark for a short product landing page.

Run Your First Comparison

  1. Choose URL or pasted content for the Reference. Add the page address or the relevant text.
  2. Choose URL or pasted content independently for the Target. You can compare a published Reference with an unpublished Target draft.
  3. Add optional context such as the primary topic, target audience, page goal and content type. Be specific about what the Target needs to help a reader do.
  4. For a first content-only pass, leave optional keyword and organic-ranking lookups off. You can add that context when it helps answer a specific question.
  5. Run the analysis. Review any extraction preview to check that the expected page text was retrieved.
  6. Read the opportunity assessment, open the strongest findings and inspect their evidence before planning an edit.

Use Pasted Content When Extraction Is Incomplete

A URL result depends on the text the tool can retrieve. If the preview is empty, unexpectedly short or dominated by navigation, paste the relevant page content instead. This also gives you control over the material included in a comparison. Keep useful headings and avoid adding unrelated site-wide copy.

Submitted content is processed by the service; the Scanner is not a browser-only checker. Use material you are permitted to submit and leave out credentials or confidential details that are unnecessary for the comparison.

Read the Assessment and Inspect the Findings

The Opportunity Assessment summarizes the content opportunity found in this comparison. Labels such as Strong coverage, Needs improvement or Limited verified evidence describe the available content evidence. They are not search-engine rankings, site-health scores or promises of better performance.

Use the Priority Tiers as a Review Order

TierHow to use it
Immediate priorityInspect these findings first when they are important and actionable.
Strong opportunityConsider these substantial improvements next.
Secondary improvementUseful work to weigh against scope and available effort.
Consider laterRevisit lower-priority ideas after the stronger items.

Impact, confidence and implementation effort inform the tier order. Keyword volume and organic ranking data add context; they do not by themselves change eligibility or priority.

Check What a Recommendation Actually Says

A finding can include the topic, missing or underdeveloped status, why it matters, a recommended action and a suggested place on the Target page. Review the supporting Reference and Target evidence, then check that the proposed change is true for your product and useful for the intended reader.

For a missing-content claim, look for the supposed topic on the Target yourself. For an underdeveloped topic, decide whether the extra detail belongs on this page or would be better handled through a relevant link. Keep existing Target strengths intact.

Review Supporting Analysis

Not every observation becomes a recommendation. Findings with insufficient verification, or evidence that contradicts a missing-content claim, can be excluded from the prioritized list. Supporting Analysis explains these exclusions and shows category coverage. An excluded observation is not a hidden instruction to add more content.

If an exclusion or recommendation looks wrong, inspect the input text and the page goal before rerunning. A low-evidence comparison should prompt a closer review of the inputs, rather than an assumption that the Target has nothing useful to improve.

Add Keyword and Organic Context When Useful

Keyword Intelligence

Optional keyword intelligence connects findings to related search terms. Where Ahrefs is configured, enter a seed keyword, choose a country and select 25, 50 or 100 ideas. The tool can suggest seed phrases from Target content; choose one that matches the page's purpose or enter your own.

You can also paste up to 500 keyword rows in the format keyword, search volume, difficulty. For example: website migration checklist, 100, 20. Those example numbers are illustrative, not current keyword data. Use data from your own research when making decisions.

Matched keywords may show intent, topic clusters, search volume, difficulty and Target coverage. Coverage can be represented, partially represented, not represented or unclear. These are contextual assessments of the supplied content, not a guarantee that the page will rank.

Target Organic Performance

For a URL-based Target, the optional organic module can retrieve exact-page keyword positions, estimated traffic, volume and difficulty. It can compare against 7, 28 or 90 days earlier, or run without a historical comparison. The output groups positions and describes movement such as new, lost, improved, declined or stable.

Choose the country relevant to your analysis. Page-level rankings are not a complete domain audit, and third-party traffic estimates are not the site owner's analytics. Historical results depend on data available from the provider.

Reference and Target Ranking Overlap

When both inputs are URLs, Target organic rankings are enabled and the Reference comparison option is selected, the tool can compare the two pages' observed keyword rankings. It groups terms as shared, Reference-only and Target-only, with the relative observed position for shared keywords.

Reference-only visibility can help you investigate a topic; it does not prove that adding the topic will produce the same rankings. Target-only visibility can reveal strengths worth preserving. Not observed means absent from the retrieved dataset for that page and country, not that the page never ranks.

Keep Optional Lookups Optional

Keyword and ranking modules depend on configured services and available data. A content comparison can still be useful without them. Pasted inputs work for content analysis; exact-page organic lookups require the relevant URL inputs.

Turn a Finding Into a Defensible Content Task

Consider a fictional comparison between two website-migration product pages. The Reference explains a rollback procedure. The Target promises a smooth migration but gives little detail about what happens if validation fails. A finding about recovery planning would be something to investigate, not permission to copy the Reference's promise.

Work Through the Evidence

  1. Read the cited Reference text and the Target evidence. Confirm that the inputs contain the relevant sections.
  2. Check whether the Target product actually has a supported rollback process. Ask the responsible product or engineering person if the published information is insufficient.
  3. If the capability is real and relevant, draft a short explanation of the process, its conditions and the next step for the reader. Place it where the reader encounters migration risk or implementation details.
  4. If the capability is absent or the topic does not fit this page, do not add an unsupported claim. Keep the finding as a question for product or content planning.
  5. Recheck the edited page against the original goal. A fuller page is useful only when the new detail helps its intended reader.

This is a fictional editorial example, not a measured tool result or a claim about either an existing product or its rankings.

Keep the Current Report

Use Copy to place the current report text on your clipboard, then paste it into your content brief or review document. Use Export PDF to download a report you can review or share. Export a useful result before leaving the page; the public workflow is not a permanent saved-history workspace.

Treat the report as decision support. When handing it to a writer, identify which findings you accept, which need a product check and which are outside scope. Include the final page goal so the writer does not turn every difference into new copy.

Projects and Test Lab Are Owner Features

The public workflow includes comparison, Copy and current-report PDF. Projects, saved runs, history, comparisons of saved runs and Test Lab are restricted to the CoreAEX owner. The Owner link is for that private workspace; it is not public account registration.

A public comparison is not automatically saved into Projects or Test Lab. This does not mean that submitted content is processed only on your device or establish a provider retention policy.

Try it on one pair of pages. Pick a Reference and a Target with a similar purpose, state the Target's page goal, and inspect the evidence behind the top finding before you plan any edit.

Troubleshooting and Limits

What you seeWhat to check
Wrong or incomplete URL textInspect the extraction preview, then use pasted page content if needed.
Unexpected recommendationsCheck Reference relevance, Target text and optional audience and page-goal context.
Few eligible findingsRead Supporting Analysis and evidence exclusions; do not assume that every difference should qualify.
No keyword or ranking dataCheck that the optional module is enabled, inputs are suitable and the configured service has data.
Copy failsKeep the result open and try a direct button click; browser clipboard permissions can matter. Use PDF if needed.
PDF cannot be generatedRetry while the current result is available. If the analysis is no longer available, a new comparison may be needed.

What This Comparison Cannot Establish

The Scanner does not perform a full-site crawl, verify every product claim, measure conversions or automatically improve search visibility. A Reference can be inaccurate, and an AI-generated finding can be wrong. Verify facts and judge each change against the Target's audience and purpose.

The opportunity assessment is about the content comparison. Keyword demand, estimated traffic and observed rankings add context; none is a promised outcome. A small number of relevant, verified changes can be more useful than adding every topic the Reference mentions.
